Interview with Monica Hita, Production Coordinator
Monica Hita is the current production coordinator and one of the people who knows Consman best. After 27 years in the company, she has rotated through almost every department except the workshop.
Do you remember your first day at Consman?
Yes, I was scared because I was 23 years old, it was very different from everything I had done before and I was in the office with the two bosses. It was a small and very familiar company, but I quickly saw that I could learn a lot.
The time of the pandemic… no doubt about it! Although it was one of the most difficult times – for Consman and for all of us – the whole team made an extra effort to keep the company going. At first we overworked, but eventually so many months went by that we had to resort to a partial ERTE to keep us available for bus repairs.
What has never changed: its dynamism. Not every day is the same. It is not a static company but we are always looking at how we can improve. We have that challenge.
Of course, and the atmosphere is very good. We are still a small family that brings different and necessary things to the table. One part with a lot of experience, which has grown with the company, and another younger part that is eager to learn. For me it is a good sign that there are employees who have been with us for so many years, some of whom have even left and come back.
When I started it was a small workshop in Abrera dedicated to the manufacture of tank vehicles. Now we are in Castellbisbal, we are bigger and we can repair any type of industrial vehicle. About 30 years ago it was a sector of small self-employed people with diesel vehicles. Nowadays, however, there are more and more fleets and hybrid, electric and hydrogen technologies are being developed… applied to vehicles.
Based on a lot of investment and training. At Consman we are in continuous training, taking courses from the manufacturers, on regulations, on safety… And not only the staff in the workshop – as is logical – but also in administration on the computer programmes.
I would highlight two things. Firstly, we are always at the forefront. Before it reaches the market or even before the customer has the need, we are already prepared. Hydrogen vehicles have just come out, for example, but we have had the facilities ready for years. On the other hand, we adapt very well to the needs of the customer, no matter if it is small or large.
It’s no longer enough to know a little about something. Before, you knew how to weld and you were learning, now you have to enter with a minimum. And languages are also very important, English is a basic skill with the new technologies.
